Moxibustion has been recognised for many years as a treatment to encourage babies lying in a breech position to turn. The treatment involves the burning of a moxa stick (a stick of compressed herbs the size of a candle) over one of the acupuncture points. This then relaxes the muscles in the uterus allowing the baby to turn to the correct head down position.
Moxibustion is a completely safe and very gentle way of attempting to turn babies. The best results are often gained before 36-37weeks as after this stage there is less room for the baby to move. It can however still be effective later in pregnancy.
Moxibustion is also beneficial to assist babies to turn from a OP (back-to-back) position which can be quite uncomfortable for the mother and associated with slower labours, to a more favourable anterior position. It can also be highly effective in increasing fetal activity.
Moxibustion is very effective when used in combination with reflexology and is offered in the comfort of your own home and costs from £15 per treatment.
